FIFA World Cup South American Qualifiers odds, picks: Top expert reveals best bets for Thursday, September 9

FIFA World Cup South American Qualifiers odds, picks: Top expert reveals best bets for Thursday, September 9

After Argentina vs. Brazil was suspended on Sunday, all 10 teams are back in action Thursday when the 2022 FIFA World Cup’s South American Qualifying group stage continues. The highly anticipated Argentina vs. Brazil match was halted seven minutes in because Brazilian health authorities determined four Argentine players violated coronavirus protocols. Brazil (7-0-0) will try to maintain its perfect record in Conmebol World Cup Qualifying when it hosts Peru at 8:30 p.m. ET, and second-place Argentina (4-3-0) hosts Bolivia at 7:30 p.m. ET. The remaining three 2022 World Cup Qualifying matches should all be tight battles, with Uruguay facing Ecuador and Paraguay taking on Venezuela, both at 6:30 p.m. ET, and Colombia and Chile squaring off at 7 p.m. ET.

Ecuador is in third place in the standings, one point ahead of Uruguay, but Caesars Sportsbook lists Uruguay as the -120 favorite in its latest 2022 World Cup Qualifying odds. Ecuador is a +340 underdog, with a draw priced at +225 and the over-under for total goals scored set at 2.5. Top 2022 FIFA World Cup South American Qualifiers predictions

One of Green’s best bets for Thursday: He expects the Colombia vs. Chile match to come in under the 2.5 goal total (-162). Neither team has been lighting up the scoreboard, and Chile has not scored in its past four games. Chile played nearly 30 minutes with a man advantage after an Ecuador player was sent off Sunday, but Chile still struggled to create chances in the 0-0 draw. La Roja will be missing its top two all-time international goal-scorers, with Alexis Sanchez (46 goals) out injured and Eduardo Vargas (40) on a booking suspension.

Colombia, meanwhile, has scored more than one goal just once in its past nine matches. Colombia has just three rostered players with more than five international goals, while Chile has two. And the stars are aging, with 35-year-old Radamel Falcao (35 goals) the top Colombian threat and Chile counting on 34-year-old Arturo Vidal (32). The under has paid off in six of the past seven meetings between the teams.
