After Combate Global staged an eight-man bantamweight tournament in May, the women will now step into the octagon for their own showcase event. A one-night, eight-woman tournament dubbed “Last Latina Standing” will take place on Friday in Miami. The women will compete in the 115-pound strawweight division, with the tournament victor becoming the No. 1 contender to the strawweight championship currently held by Melissa Martinez.
One of the most anticipated bouts on the card will feature Criszaida Adames (4-0) taking on Yajaira Cunningham (3-2), who will be fighting on just seven weeks of rest. In addition to the tournament, one men’s bout will take place in between tournament stages as Leo Muniz (4-1) looks to avenge his only professional loss in a rematch against Hector Fajardo (4-0). The Combate Global fight card begins at 10:30 p.m. ET and can be streamed on Paramount+ with their must-have Premium plan.

Combate Global picks for eight-woman tournament
Before you tune in to Friday’s fight card, you need to see the picks from SportsLine’s MMA insider Ian Parker. Parker told SportsLine that Adames will be successful “as long as she can stay off her back and watch out for the shoulder choke of Cunningham.”
Of Cunningham’s three professional victories, two have come via chokehold. That includes her last bout in which the Nicaraguan screamed “She’s asleep” to let the referee know her opponent was out cold. However, Adames has never tasted defeat in her pro or amateur career, while she also choked out her opponent in a win last November. Parker says that Adames is superior to Cunningham across the board and should be able to dictate the pace to a win.
Attrition could also become a factor in this fight since this will be Cunningham’s third fight in three months, while Adames hasn’t fought since April.
