What to Know
The Connecticut Huskies’ homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Purdue Boilermakers at 3 p.m. ET Sept. 11 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. Purdue should still be feeling good after a victory, while the Huskies will be looking to right the ship.
UConn came up short against the Holy Cross Crusaders last week, falling 38-28. A silver lining for UConn was the play of WR Keelan Marion, who snatched two receiving TDs. One of the most thrilling moments was Marion’s 50-yard TD reception in the first quarter.
The UConn defensive unit accumulated four sacks for a loss of 17 yards. Leading the way was DL Travis Jones and his one sack. That was the first sack for Jones.
Meanwhile, Purdue beat the Oregon State Beavers 30-21 last week. Purdue can attribute much of their success to TE Payne Durham, who caught seven passes for two TDs and 120 yards. One of the most thrilling moments was Durham’s 50-yard TD reception in the fourth quarter.
Special teams collected 12 points for the Boilermakers. K Mitchell Fineran delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
Connecticut’s defeat took them down to 0-2 while Purdue’s win pulled them up to 1-0. Giving up four turnovers, the Huskies had had trouble holding onto the ball. We’ll see if Purdue can exploit that vulnerability.
