Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence suffered a broken foot that is expected to sideline him at least six to eight weeks, according to CBS Sports Cowboys Insider Patrik Walker. Lawrence sustained the injury in the midst of Wednesday’s practice and, at the time, the team simply noted it was a foot injury. However, Walker reports that Dallas now fears Lawrence is dealing with a fracture, which would result in him going on injured reserve.

The extended 17-game season does present an opportunity for Lawrence’s injury to not be season-ending, according to Walker. Lawrence himself even took to social media to essentially confirm the injury and suggest that he’ll be back at some point in 2021.

While Dallas didn’t record a sack in their opening-week loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lawrence and Co. were able to apply pressure on Tom Brady throughout the evening. In that game, Lawrence totaled five tackles and was the Cowboys’ highest-rated defender in Week 1.

This adds insult to injury to a unit that already has Randy Gregory’s status in question for Week 2 after he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, meaning Dallas could be without its two starting defensive ends as it prepares to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
