Following its 28-20 win over Auburn at home on Saturday evening in front of a White Out crowd, Penn State rose from No. 12 to No. 8 in the rankings to shake up the top 10 of the latest Coaches Poll. And despite playing Alabama exceptionally close in a 31-29 loss, Florida fell from No. 9 to No. 11 in the rankings. The Crimson Tide held on to 64 first-place votes while No. 2 Georgia received the lone other first-place nod.
Across the country, Fresno State entered the rankings for the first time since 2018 after quarterback Jake Haener threw a late touchdown against No. 13 UCLA to pull off a major upset. The Bulldogs also earned credibility for playing Oregon within a touchdown in Week 1 and enter Mountain West play as a team to beat. However, the Bulldogs still rank one spot behind the Bruins despite beating them.
Down the list, Ole Miss jumped three spots in the rankings after dropping 61 points on Tulane. BYU jumped up to No. 16 after beating Arizona State in a physical football game. Conversely, the Sun Devils fell out of the rankings. No. 15 Virginia Tech also dropped out after failing to come from behind against rival West Virginia.
