The first rookie quarterback matchup of the season will take place in Week 2 between the Jets and Patriots. No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson will look for his first win of the season, as will No. 15 pick Mac Jones. Most of the Jets’ roster will search for their first victory over their divisional rival since the Patriots have won the last 10 head-to-head matchups. Bill Belichick’s Hall of Fame resume should include his success versus rookie quarterbacks, as he’s gone 26-6 against them while coaching New England.
Kickoff for Jets vs. Patriots is set for 1 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Caesars Sportsbook lists New England as a six-point favorite in the latest Patriots vs. Jets odds, while the over-under for total points is 43. In select markets, Sunday’s matchup can be seen live on CBS and streamed live on Paramount+ with their must-have Premium plan.

Week 2 NFL picks for Jets vs. Patriots
Before you tune in to Sunday’s Patriots vs. Jets game, you need to see the NFL picks from SportsLine’s advanced computer model. The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up almost $7,900 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception six-plus years ago. It went a sizzling 24-14 on top-rated NFL picks last season, returning more than $800. The model also enters Week 2 of the 2021 season on an incredible 121-79 run on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season.
The model also ranked in the Top 10 on NFLPickWatch four of the past five years on straight-up NFL picks and beat more than 94 percent of CBS Sports Football Pick’em players four times during that span. Anyone who has followed it is way up.
For Jets vs. Patriots, the model is backing the under (43) to hit with several points to spare. The model predicts the teams to combine for 40 total points, resulting in the under hitting in almost 60 percent of simulations.
Both teams are rolling out rookie quarterbacks, and there is certainly an adjustment for first-year signal-callers. The teams combined for just three touchdowns in their Week 1 games, as each offense looked out of sync and had trouble moving downfield. The Patriots fumbled four times, losing two of them, while the Jets allowed six sacks. Wilson looked lost in Week 1 at times, while Jones will have to deal with a hostile environment for the first time on Sunday.
SportsLine’s model sees this as a defensive slugfest, with the game having more total sacks than touchdowns. Wilson will be pressured throughout, especially since Jets’ starting left tackle Mekhi Becton (knee) will be out for Week 2. Jones is projected to be efficient, but not overly productive against the Robert Saleh-coached defense.
The model also acknowledges that Patriots games have averaged 41.9 total points per game since the start of 2020, the second-lowest in the league. Jets games aren’t far off with the fifth-lowest total points per game since the start of last year.
