Tyrod Taylor led the Texans to a blowout win over the Jaguars in Week 1, then started strong against the Browns in Week 2. But he won’t suit up at all in Week 3. After exiting Sunday’s loss to Cleveland early thanks to a hamstring injury, the veteran quarterback will sit out Houston’s upcoming “Thursday Night Football” matchup with the Panthers. That’s according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who reported Sunday that while Taylor is still awaiting further testing on his injury, he’ll be sidelined at least one game, leaving rookie Davis Mills as the likely QB1 against Carolina.

Taylor, who threw for just under 300 yards and two touchdowns in Houston’s Week 1 rout, helped guide the Texans to a 14-14 tie at the break of Sunday’s game against the Browns. He slowed his momentum during a second-quarter touchdown run but remained in the game until halftime, with Mills replacing him under center in the second half. Taylor finished the game 10-of-11 for 125 yards and a touchdown, while Mills — a third-round pick out of Stanford this year — went 8-of-18 for 102 yards with one touchdown and one pick.

The 32-year-old Taylor has been the Texans’ de facto No. 1 QB ever since Pro Bowl starter Deshaun Watson began facing a bevy of civil lawsuits for alleged sexual assault and misconduct. Mills, meanwhile, had not thrown an NFL pass until Sunday in Cleveland.

Texans coach David Culley was noncommittal when asked after Sunday’s game whether Watson could play in Week 3 after spending the first two weeks inactive amid his off-field situation, but all indications are that Mills will get the call at QB with Taylor sidelined.
