Through 3 Quarters

A great path to victory is to simply outgain your opponent on the field, and that’s working so far for the Ohio State Buckeyes (with 547 yards vs. 142 yards). After three quarters it’s looking more and more like their high-powered offense is just too much for the Akron Zips as the Buckeyes lead 52-7.

OSU has been riding high on the performance of RB TreVeyon Henderson, who has rushed for two TDs and 93 yards on eight carries. OSU has also gotten a nice defensive effort from DT Haskell Garrett, who has taken down the quarterback three times.

Akron has been led by WR Konata Mumpfield, who so far has caught five passes for one TD and 52 yards.

Who’s Playing

Akron @ No. 10 Ohio State

Current Records: Akron 1-2; Ohio State 2-1

What to Know

The Akron Zips have enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they must head out on the road. They will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Ohio Stadium. Both teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Akron made easy work of the Bryant Bulldogs last week and carried off a 35-14 victory.

Meanwhile, OSU was the big favorite in their most recent matchup, and for good reason. They put the hurt on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane with a sharp 41-20 win. RB TreVeyon Henderson was a one-man wrecking crew for the Buckeyes, rushing for three TDs and 277 yards on 24 carries. Henderson put himself on the highlight reel with a 52-yard TD scramble in the third quarter.

The wins brought Akron up to 1-2 and OSU to a reciprocal 2-1. A couple defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Akron is 238th worst in the nation in touchdowns allowed, with 14 on the season. The Buckeyes have experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the game with the 215th most yards allowed per game in the nation, having given up 471.3 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
