Who’s Playing
Arkansas State @ Tulsa
Current Records: Arkansas State 1-2; Tulsa 0-3
What to Know
Considering their sizeable disadvantage in the spread, the Arkansas State Red Wolves can expect to have a real challenge on their hands Saturday. They are on the road again Saturday and play against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 5 p.m. ET Sept. 25 at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium. Both of these teams will be looking for a pick-me-up after considerable defeats in their previous games.
Arkansas State took a serious blow against the Washington Huskies last week, falling 52-3. The Red Wolves were in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 28 to nothing.
Meanwhile, Tulsa scored first but ultimately less than the Ohio State Buckeyes in their contest last week. Tulsa ended up on the wrong side of a painful 41-20 walloping at OSU’s hands. Tulsa might not have won anyway, but their 85 penalty yards sure didn’t help matters. Tulsa’s defeat came about despite a quality game from WR Josh Johnson, who caught eight passes for one TD and 149 yards. Johnson had some trouble finding his footing against the Oklahoma State Cowboys two weeks ago, so this was a step in the right direction.
The losses put the Red Wolves at 1-2 and the Golden Hurricane at 0-3. A couple defensive stats to keep an eye on: Arkansas State is stumbling into the matchup with the 247th most passing yards allowed per game in the nation, having given up 370.3 on average. Tulsa has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 181st worst in the nation in rushing yards allowed per game, with 183.7 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
