The game of the week in the NFL takes place in New England this Sunday night, as Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head north to take on the Patriots. It’s not just Brady who is looking to record a win against his former team, as tight end Rob Gronkowski has surely had this date circled for some time as well. However, his status for Sunday night is now officially in question.
In the Buccaneers’ final injury report, Gronkowski is listed as doubtful with an injury to his ribs. Gronk suffered the injury after taking a hard hit in the Bucs’ 34-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams last week, and did not practice at all this week.
While the doubtful designation is reason to worry, it’s expected that Gronkowski will do everything he possibly can to suit up and play on his former home field this week. The Patriots legend has been looking like his old self this season, as he has caught 16 passes for 184 yards and four touchdowns. He caught all four of his scores in the first two games of the season.
Gronkowski was not the only big name listed on Tampa Bay’s injury report, as running back Giovani Bernard and cornerback Jamel Dean were ruled out with knee injuries, and pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul is questionable with a shoulder injury.
