Quenton Nelson has been placed on injured reserve after the Colts three-time All-Pro guard suffered an ankle injury during the Colts’ Week 3 loss to the Titans. The sixth overall pick in the 2018 draft, Nelson’s streak of 51 consecutive regular-season starts will come to an end Sunday against the Dolphins. Nelson will miss at least three weeks while on injured reserve.

The Colts will also be without defensive end Kwity Paye (hamstring), right tackle Braden Smith (foot/thumb), safety Khari Willis (groin) and cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (ankle) for Sunday’s game. Tight end Jack Doyle (back), guard Mark Glowinski (knee), running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) and quarterback Carson Wentz (ankles) are questionable.

Following a stellar career at Notre Dame, Nelson has quickly blossomed into one of the NFL’s top offensive linemen. He was ranked No. 26 in CBS Sports NFL senior writer Pete Prisco’s annual offseason list of the NFL’s top 100 players.

“He is one of the best run-blocking players in the game, but his pass protection is good as well,” Prisco wrote of Nelson. “He is a complete player who always seems to find a way to get a highlight-reel block in every game.”

There are several reasons why the Colts are still in search of their first win. They’re near the bottom of the league in both scoring offense and defense. They’re 26th in the NFL in passing, as Wentz continues to battle through injuries. The Colts’ running game has been solid yet underutilized, as Taylor has just 42 carries so far. Defensively, the Colts are 28th against the run after allowing Derrick Henry to run for 113 yards in last week’s loss. Indianapolis has also struggled to get to opposing quarterbacks, as it is tied for 23rd in the NFL in sacks.
