What to Know
The UCLA Bruins and the Arizona State Sun Devils are set to square off in a Pac-12 matchup at 10:30 p.m. ET Oct. 2 at Rose Bowl. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous games.
The Bruins beat the Stanford Cardinal 35-24 on Saturday. UCLA QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson was slinging it as he passed for two TDs and 252 yards on 28 attempts in addition to rushing for two TDs and 31 yards. Near the top of the highlight reel was Thompson-Robinson’s 75-yard TD bomb to WR Kyle Philips in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, if there were any doubts why ASU was a heavy favorite Saturday, the team quickly laid those doubts to rest. They blew past the Colorado Buffaloes 35-13 on Saturday. ASU QB Jayden Daniels did work as he accumulated 236 passing yards in addition to rushing for two TDs and 75 yards. Daniels had some trouble finding his footing against the BYU Cougars last week, so this was a step in the right direction. Daniels’ sharp performance set his single-game rushing touchdown high for the season.
The wins brought both teams up to an identical 3-1. A couple defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: UCLA is stumbling into the game with the 240th most passing yards allowed per game in the nation, having given up 330.3 on average. ASU has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 142nd worst in the nation in rushing touchdowns allowed, with five on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
