What you need to know about BYU
The QB position is a bit of a concern. Jaren Hall, who began the year as the starter, missed the last two games with an apparent rib injury. His replacement, Baylor Romney, played well in his absence, but sustained a head injury last week against Utah State. Redshirt freshman Jacob Conover and redshirt junior Neil Pau’u are the remaining options, and they combined to go 7-for-11 for 58 yards against the Aggies.
With the quarterback situation up in the air, this should be another big week for running back Tyler Allgeier. Boise State has allowed 194 rushing yards per game from opponents, and Allgeier has the eighth-most rushing yards in the nation. The redshirt sophomore is also tied for the ninth-most carries of at least ten yards this season with 16.
What you need to know about Boise State
Junior QB Hank Bachmeier is coming off of the best game of his season, albeit in a loss to Nevada. He completed 70 percent of his passes for 388 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. The Cougars have come away with six interceptions so far this season, and Bachmeier has thrown one in each of his last three games. Bachmeier didn’t play in either of Boise’s losses to BYU over the past two seasons.
Allgeier should be a major concern for Boise, who enter the week with cluster injuries along the defensive line. Last week, Nevada running back Toa Taua had 12 carries for 124 yards against the Broncos after taking just 15 yards from six carries the previous week against Kansas State. Boise State’s defense is also 110th in the country at getting off the field on third down.
