Cowboys vs. Giants picks: Point spread, total, player props, trends for NFC East head-to-head in Week 5

Fresh off their first win of the season, the New York Giants will head into AT&T Stadium to face the NFC East-leading Cowboys in Week 5. Joe Judge’s team was able to get into the win column for the first time in 2021 courtesy of a Saquon Barkley touchdown in overtime against New Orleans. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have ripped off three straight wins coming into this matchup, including a 36-point showing in a victory over Carolina last week. Who will be able to keep their winning ways up? We’re about to find out.

In this space, we’re going to dive into all the different betting angles that this game has to offer. We’ll take a look at how the lines have shifted leading up to this divisional matchup and, of course, give our predictions for what may unfold.

Latest Odds: Dallas Cowboys -7

New York’s first win of the season — and strong play of Daniel Jones as of late — has seemed to have built some good standing with bettors, who have driven this number down after it opened at Cowboys -8.5. Throughout the week, this number has dipped and now stands at Cowboys -7.

The pick: Cowboys -7. Dallas enters this game as the only undefeated team in the NFL against the spread. On offense, they rank third in the league in total yards and fourth in points per game. On top of that, their defense — a side of the ball that has plagued them in recent years — is starting to show signs of life with rookie linebacker Micah Parsons and second-year corner Trevon Diggs, who leads the NFL with five interceptions. While New York was able to impress with its first win of the year in Week 4, it still should be considered one of the bottom dwellers in this division with Dallas clearly the more talented team.

Key trend: Cowboys are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games.

Over/Under total

Again, the Giants showing life has, in part, brought this total to life, rising from its opening number of 49.5 all the way to 52 as of Thursday night.

The pick: Over 52. The Over has been the popular play this week and this number has only gone up. Despite catching it after it’s gone over the 50-point threshold, I still feel good about this leaning over. The Cowboys rank third in the NFL in offensive DVOA while the Giants rank a respectable 12th in that category, meaning both offenses have the capability to put up points. What helps the chances of this total going over even more is the Giants’ 27th ranking in defensive DVOA. Dallas has already shown us this season that it has an offense that can go well into the 30s. Against a poor New York defense, that should be able to get there again and help us cash here.

Key trend: Over is 9-3 in their last 12 meetings in Dallas.

Player props to consider

Saquon Barkley total rushing yards: Over 55.5 (-115). The Giants star back has started to show signs of life over the last few weeks and is now going up against a Cowboys run defense that did allow Carolina to rush for 113 yards on 4.7 yards per carry.

Dak Prescott total passing completions: Over 24.5 (-120). New York is allowing 27 completions per game to opposing quarterbacks over the first month of the season.

Ezekiel Elliott total rushing yards: Over 74.5 (-115). Zeke has gone over this prop in his last two outing and the Giants are giving up 122.8 yards on the ground this season on a 4.5-yards-per-carry clip.
