The Green Bay Packers are taking a cautious approach with Jaire Alexander, as the All-Pro cornerback was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury Saturday. Alexander, already ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, will get a minimum of three weeks to heal up his shoulder and see if he can avoid surgery.

“We got better clarity with that,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Friday, via the Packers website. “We’re going to let it heal and see where it’s at down the line before making that determination (on surgery).

“We’re hopeful it’ll heal the right way and he’ll be back with us in a matter of weeks.”

The Packers are hoping Alexander can return this year. Opposing quarterbacks targeting Alexander have completed 57.9% of their passes and compiled a 92.7 passer rating. Alexander has allowed two touchdowns in coverage while recording an interception in four games. He also has 13 tackles and three passes defensed.

Alexander was an All-Pro in 2020, as opposing quarterbacks had just a 54.3 passer rating targeting him. He also finished with 13 passes defensed and an interception. With Alexander out, Kevin King, Eric Stokes, and Chandon Sullivan will be relied on to fill the void at cornerback.

Green Bay also activated defensive tackle Tyler Lancaster from the reserve/COVID-19 list and elevated guard Ben Braden and wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s game.
