Senior quarterback Chase Brice is off to a solid start to the season, completing 104-of-153 passes (68 percent) for 1,360 yards and eight touchdowns. He has been picked off three times, but has a rating of 156.0. Brice has also rushed for a score. Against Georgia State, Brice was red-hot, completing 20-of-28 passes (71.4 percent) for 326 yards and three touchdowns.
His top target has been senior wide receiver Corey Xavier Sutton. Sutton has 32 catches for 473 yards (14.8 average) and three touchdowns. In his last three games, he has eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark, including a season-high 128 yards vs. Elon on Sept. 18.
Why Louisiana can cover
Despite that, the Mountaineers are not a lock to cover the Appalachian State vs. Louisiana spread.
