Anything can happen in postseason baseball, which can wreak havoc on carefully crafted MLB DFS lineups on sites like FanDuel or DraftKings. Tampa Bay outfielder Kevin Kiermaier was the 22nd-most expensive outfielder on DraftKings and 17th on FanDuel on Sunday, and could have returned top-10 production had it not been for a freak incident in the 13th inning of Game 3 against the Red Sox. A ball he hit into the centerfield wall ricocheted off of Boston’s Hunter Renfroe and out of play for a ground-rule double.
Had play continued, he would have at least had a run-scoring triple and the Rays may have very well taken the win in the game. Instead, he missed out on at least five more points on DraftKings and 6.5 on FanDuel. Those that took a shot on Kiermaier could have used those points after he was 0-for-3 in his other at bats in the game. Before taking a shot on low-salary, high-upside players in Monday’s MLB DFS player pool, check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.
McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.
On Saturday, McClure listed Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts among his top MLB DFS picks on FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: Betts hit a run-scoring single against the Giants, and that was enough to finish as the third-best outfielder on DraftKings and fourth on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.
Now, with the MLB playoffs 2021 continuing on Monday, October 11, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks. Head to SportsLine now to see them.
McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Monday, October 11
One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Monday is Boston OF Kyle Schwarber, who is listed at $3,400 on FanDuel and $4,800 on DraftKings. Schwarber started at first base for Boston for just the eleventh time, and he went 3-for-4 with a home run in a 6-4 Red Sox win over Tampa Bay on Sunday.
He was also the target of some light-hearted ribbing in the game after he made a fielding error on a routine play in the first inning. After making good on a similar play in the third, he embellished a celebration to a sarcastic standing ovation from the Boston faithful. Besides his performance on Sunday, he has been a productive hitter against Tampa Bay all year, and the Rays are reported to platoon bullpen pitchers in Game 4. Collin McHugh is expected to start for Tampa Bay, and in his only career postseason appearance, he has a 16.20 ERA in 1.2 innings pitched.
Another key in McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes stacking Schwarber with Red Sox outfielder Enrique Hernandez ($3,100 on FanDuel and $4,400 on DraftKings). Schwarber wasn’t the only Sox player with a nice day at the plate on Sunday, as Hernandez went 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBI for 22 points on DraftKings and 28.2 on FanDuel.
Hernandez was even better in Game 2 on Friday, when he hit his first homer of the postseason, scored three runs, and had three doubles with three RBI. With Tampa Bay expected to throw numerous pitchers at Boston on Monday, Hernandez offers great value. This season, he has 29 RBI against relief pitchers in 199 at bats. By comparison, he has 31 RBI against starting pitchers in 303 at bats.
