It appears Indianapolis Colts star wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is getting closer to making his 2021 debut. On Wednesday, the team announced that their veteran wideout would return to practice this week after undergoing neck surgery in September. This opens a three-week window where the Colts can activate Hilton from injured reserve.
“Certainly excited to have T.Y. back in the fold and out on the field,” Colts head coach Frank Reich said. “Obviously that’s a big, emotional boost to the team.”
Reich described the injury as a “disc issue” last month, according to NFL.com, and Hilton underwent surgery to correct the issue. Stephen Holder of The Athletic reported that the four-time Pro Bowler would be back “sooner than later,” and sure enough, that appears to be the case.
Hilton has spent his entire nine-year career with the Colts and signed a one-year deal this offseason to stay in Indy. He caught 56 passes for 762 yards and five touchdowns for the Colts in 15 games last year.
The 1-4 Colts are coming off of a heartbreaking, 31-25 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens. While a loss is a loss, it was Carson Wentz’s best game as a Colt, as he threw for 402 yards and two touchdowns. Indy’s passing offense currently sits at No. 15 in the league, as the Colts average 249.2 passing yards per game. The offense will receive a boost with the return of Hilton — whenever that may be.
