Colombia leave furious after VAR heartbreak

So let’s set the scene here — the match was 0-0 late, and after numerous stoppages, eight minutes of added time were given. So, of course, the match reached the 110th minute, and it was there when Colombia defender Yerry Mina scored what looked to be the winner. The goal was then ruled out for handball via VAR, and once full time hit at 0-0 the Colombia players were more than upset. Take a look:

Brazil dominate and Uruguay struggle … again

So, as usual, Brazil are running away with this thing and should cement their spot in next year’s World Cup soon. They will continue to be the only national team to play in every single World Cup. They made quick work of Uruguay, with Leeds’ Raphina scoring twice in his first start, while the misery continued for the Charruas. Their October window saw them draw Colombia at home, lose 3-0 at Argentina and then get handled in Brazil. There is still a ways to go, but the hand may need to approach the panic button before long with Chile breathing down their necks.

Brazil finished the match with 20 shots, 13 of which were on goal.

Bye Berizzo

Perhaps the most alarming scoreline of the day was Paraguay getting crushed by Bolivia 4-0. The Guarani are in serious trouble when it comes to qualifying for the World Cup, sitting four points behind fifth place with two teams ahead of them also fighting to reach the top five.

But maybe this will be the point where they get it together, as the FA announced after the match that manager Eduardo Berizzo has been relieved of his duties.

The former Celta Vigo, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao boss joined Paraguay in 2019 and won just seven of 31 matches while in charge.
