Who’s Playing

California @ No. 9 Oregon

Current Records: California 1-4; Oregon 4-1

What to Know

The Oregon Ducks and the California Golden Bears have had some time off and are no doubt ready to hit the field. The Ducks and California will face off in a Pac-12 battle at 10:30 p.m. ET on Friday at Autzen Stadium. Oregon is out to keep their three-game home win streak alive.

Oregon fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Stanford Cardinal two weeks ago but wound up with a less-than-desirable result, falling 31-24. QB Anthony Brown put forth a good effort for the losing side as he accumulated 186 passing yards in addition to rushing for two TDs and 35 yards.

Meanwhile, the point spread favored California two weeks ago, but luck did not. They took a 21-6 bruising from the Washington State Cougars. QB Chase Garbers had a memorable game, but not in the way you want to be remembered: besides failing to produce a single touchdown, he threw one interception with a passing completion percentage of only 46.67%.

This next contest looks promising for Oregon, who are favored by a full 13.5 points. They may be expected to win, but bettors beware: they are 0-4 against the spread when favored.

The losses put the Ducks at 4-1 and the Golden Bears at a reciprocal 1-4. A pair of defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Oregon is stumbling into the game with the 199th most passing yards allowed per game in the nation, having given up 275.2 on average. California has experienced some passing struggles of their own as they are 219th worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 12 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
