Fantasy Basketball Rankings 2021: Top sleepers, breakouts, busts from proven NBA computer simulation

Fantasy Basketball Rankings 2021: Top sleepers, breakouts, busts from proven NBA computer simulation

With Trae Young leading the way, the Atlanta Hawks realized some of their potential last season en route to a fifth-place finish in the Eastern Conference. Young averaged 25 points and 9.4 assists per game last season, ranking 15th and third, respectively, in the NBA in those categories. Entering 2021-22, Young is poised to match that production, and he’ll certainly be among the top 2021 Fantasy basketball picks. But where will the rest of the Hawks land in the 2021 Fantasy basketball rankings?

John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Clint Capela, De’Andre Hunter and Danilo Gallinari round out Young’s supporting class. Given that the Hawks elected not to add any big pieces this offseason, the Hawks will be relying on the same group this time around. Before making any 2021 Fantasy basketball picks, be sure to check out the 2021 Fantasy basketball rankings and cheat sheets from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proven model simulates each season 10,0000 times. This model is powered by the same people who powered projections for all three major Fantasy sites. And that same group is sharing its 2021 Fantasy basketball cheat sheets.

These cheat sheets and rankings, available for leagues on many major sites, are updated multiple times every day. Any time an injury occurs or there’s a change on a roster, the team at SportsLine updates its cheat sheets.

They’ve called past Fantasy basketball sleepers like Lauri Markkanen and Aaron Gordon in 2018-19 and warned about Zach Randolph being a bust that same year.

Now, SportsLine has simulated the entire NBA season 10,000 times and released its latest Fantasy basketball rankings 2021, along with plenty of sleepers, breakouts and busts. Head to SportsLine now to see them

Top 2021 Fantasy basketball sleepers

One of the 2021 Fantasy basketball sleepers the model is predicting: Spurs forward Thaddeus Young. The 15th-year veteran is now with the Spurs after an offseason trade, marking his sixth different NBA squad. San Antonio looks to be entering a rough patch as its title-winning teams are increasingly in the rear-view mirror, but Young offers intriguing value for Fantasy basketball owners.

Per 2021 Fantasy basketball rankings, Young is around other journeymen like Danilo Gallinari, Jae’Sean Tate and Bojan Bogdanovic. But Young’s 2021 Fantasy basketball ADP indicates Fantasy owners are not viewing him that way. He’s going about 30 picks later than those above players.

Top 2021 Fantasy basketball breakouts

One of the 2021 Fantasy basketball breakouts the model has identified: Jalen Green. The Houston Rockets rookie should immediately have the green light to put up shots for a team that had one of the most inefficient offenses in 2020. Green was the top scorer for the G-League Ignite last season with 17.9 points per game, and was the league’s ninth-highest scorer.

Oft-injured Eric Gordon is already off to a dubious start to the year with a preseason ankle injury, and Green doesn’t have much competition for looks from the rest of the backcourt. Kevin Porter is an exciting young PG prospect, but Green is the future in Houston. SportsLine’s model loves Green’s opportunity as a scorer this season, and predicts he will be more productive than players like Caris LeVert, Fred VanVleet and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in its 2021 Fantasy basketball projections.

Top 2021 Fantasy basketball busts

As for players to avoid, the model lists Phoenix Suns guard Chris Paul as one of its top 2021 Fantasy basketball busts. The veteran signed a four-year deal with Phoenix in the offseason after averaging 16.4 points last year. However, the Suns also re-signed backup point guard Cameron Payne, who was excellent in relief of Paul during their run to the NBA Finals. Head coach Monty Williams will likely try to give Paul as much rest as possible during the regular season, especially since he dealt with various injuries last year.

Paul is 36 this season, so it’s safe to assume a dip in production is right around the corner. He might have had an excellent 2020-21 campaign, but his injuries and an expected drop in minutes make him a bust candidate this year. Paul is being drafted ahead of Malcolm Brogdon and Cade Cunningham, but the model expects those guards to be more productive.
