New Orleans Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins has invested in the Premier League club Burnley. The three-time Pro Bowler has become a minority stakeholder in the ALK Capital investment group, which took over Burnley last year.
“I’m excited to enter this new relationship, as Burnley FC is known for its tenacity, work ethic, good sportsmanship and efficient operational infrastructure,” Jenkins told the Saints official website. “It’s a great fit for me personally and my company to invest in the growth of the sport alongside a historic organization that aligns with our company values.”
According to BBC, Jenkins visited the team’s home stadium, Turf Moor, this past weekend while the Saints were on their bye week. Jenkins was given a tour by Burnley chairman Alan Pace and watched Burnley face Manchester City at Etihad Stadium.
Jenkins’ investment is executed through his holding company, Malcolm Inc, and Disrupt Sports Partners, which handles business ventures in sports.
“It is a great fit for me personally and my company to invest in the growth of the sport alongside a historic organization that aligns with our values,” Jenkins added.
Pace also said that Burnley is “thrilled” to have Jenkins as part of the club’s investment group.
“Malcolm has a wealth of high-level experience, not only as an elite sportsman, but through his successful business and philanthropic enterprises,” Pace added. “We look forward to him helping our efforts to develop the club on and off the pitch.”
Jenkins joins other U.S. sports stars such as Patrick Mahomes (Sporting KC, MLS) Kevin Durant (Philadelphia Union, MLS) and LeBron James (Liverpool, Premier League) as soccer team investors while still playing in their own leagues.
