Who’s Playing
San Jose State @ UNLV
Current Records: San Jose State 3-4; UNLV 0-6
What to Know
Get ready for a Mountain West battle as the San Jose State Spartans and the UNLV Rebels will face off at 11 p.m. ET on Thursday at Allegiant Stadium. Given that these two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
SJSU fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the San Diego State Aztecs on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result, falling 19-13. The Spartans’ only offensive touchdown came from RB Tyler Nevens.
There was early excitement for UNLV after they claimed the game’s first points on Saturday, but it was the Utah State Aggies who ended up claiming the real prize. The Rebels didn’t finish too far behind, but the squad still lost 28-24 to Utah State. UNLV was their own worst enemy and cost themselves 95 yards in penalties. They might have lost, but man — RB Charles Williams was a total machine. He rushed for three TDs and 221 yards on 27 carries. One of the most memorable plays of the game was Williams’ 75-yard touchdown rush in the first quarter. Williams’ sharp performance set his single-game rushing touchdown high for the season.
SJSU is the favorite in this one, with an expected 5-point margin of victory. Those who got lucky with them against the spread on Friday might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the team has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.
The losses put the Spartans at 3-4 and the Rebels at 0-6. Two defensive stats to keep an eye on: SJSU is stumbling into the contest with the 199th most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 11 on the season. UNLV has experienced some passing struggles of their own as they are 241st worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 17 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
