NFL Week 8 odds, picks: Lookahead lines offering value for Titans-Colts, Buccaneers-Saints and more

NFL Week 8 odds, picks: Lookahead lines offering value for Titans-Colts, Buccaneers-Saints and more

One of the most important facets of NFL betting is deciding when to place your bets. Timing is all part of the strategy, as you won’t find much value on lines if you wait until five minutes before kickoff on Sunday. It’s smart to look ahead — as we do in this column each week.

Every Friday, we take a look at the NFL lines a week in advance to determine if we should put money down now in order to get the best bang for our buck. Most of these lines will likely change before we reach Week 8, so we want to go ahead and get our bets in if we see a nice opportunity for an upset, or to jump on a favorite before the line moves even more in its favor.

Before we jump into some early bets to consider, here are the lookahead lines for Week 8. All NFL odds come courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook.

Picks to consider

Titans (+2.5) at Colts

I think the wrong team is favored here. That’s the main reason why I want to jump on this line right now — not because of what I think will happen in Week 7. With that said, I think both teams could pull off upsets this week, as the Colts take on the 49ers in prime time while the Titans host the up-and-down Chiefs. There’s no doubt that Carson Wentz and Indy’s offense are getting better, but this line stands out because I think it’s giving too much credit to a 2-4 Colts team against the 4-2 Titans.

Bengals (-3.5) at Jets

The Bengals are an underrated storyline in the NFL right now, but they won’t be underrated anymore if they defeat the Ravens this Sunday. While that’s very possible, this line could move even if they just play Baltimore tough. That’s because the Jets are awful and have to take on a Patriots team this week that has a solid defense. Those two teams faced off in Week 2, as the Patriots blew out the Jets by 19 points while Zach Wilson threw four interceptions. Rookie starting quarterbacks are 6-27 against the Patriots since Bill Belichick took over in 2000, and 0-16 against them in Foxborough during that span. So yes, I’m leaning towards the Patriots to win and cover on Sunday. I really find it hard to believe this line won’t grow by Monday morning.

Buccaneers (-4) at Saints

This is one where you just sprinkle a little money on the favorite. I think everyone is still trying to figure out who the Saints are. On some weeks the offense looks anemic, and on others, Jameis Winston balls out. New Orleans gets Seattle on the road in prime time this week, and that one really could go either way. While the Saints have a good defense, Tom Brady is motivated to beat this team. Yes, he downed Sean Payton and Co. in the playoffs last year, but he was swept in the regular season. I’m fine taking one of the best teams in the NFL to cover four points against an inconsistent squad.
