Who’s Playing
No. 3 Oklahoma @ Kansas
Current Records: Oklahoma 7-0; Kansas 1-5
What to Know
The Kansas Jayhawks are 0-6 against the Oklahoma Sooners since October of 2015, but they’ll have a chance to close the gap a little bit Saturday. Kansas and Oklahoma will face off in a Big 12 battle at noon ET at Kivisto Field at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. The Jayhawks are hoping to patch up the holes in a defense that has allowed an average of 43.33 points per contest.
Things couldn’t have gone much worse for Kansas as they lost 41-14 to the Texas Tech Red Raiders last week. Kansas was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 24 to nothing. QB Jason Bean had a memorable game, but not in the way you want to be remembered: besides failing to produce a single touchdown, he threw one interception with only 3.81 yards per passing attempt.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma took their game against the TCU Horned Frogs last week by a conclusive 52-31 score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Sooners had established a 45-24 advantage. QB Caleb Williams had a dynamite game for Oklahoma; he passed for four TDs and 295 yards on 23 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 66 yards.
The Jayhawks have to know they’ll be fighting an uphill battle given the 38.50 point spread they are up against. Those sticking with them against the spread have guts, to put it politely, as the team has let down bettors in their past four games.
Oklahoma’s win lifted them to 7-0 while Kansas’ loss dropped them down to 1-5. We’ll find out if the Sooners can add another positive mark to their record or if Kansas can shake off the defeat and take the spring out of Oklahoma’s step.
