The Houston Astros defeated the Boston Red Sox, 4-2, in their best-of-seven American League Championship Series. The Astros closed out the 2021 ALCS in Friday night’s Game 6 shutout win, advancing to the World Series for the third time in five years. Boston held a 2-1 series lead after grand slams propelled the Red Sox to wins in Games 2 and 3, but Houston punched back with three straight wins to close the series, including two at Fenway Park.
The Astros secured a spot in their fifth straight ALCS by defeating the White Sox in the ALDS by a count of three games to one. As for the Red Sox, the prevailed over the arch-rival Yankees in the AL Wild Card Game and then upset the top-seed Rays in four games in the ALDS. This marked Boston’s first appearance in the ALCS since 2018, when they won the World Series.
