Who’s Playing
New Mexico State @ Hawaii
Current Records: New Mexico State 1-6; Hawaii 3-4
What to Know
This Saturday, the New Mexico State Aggies are hoping to patch up the holes in a defense that has allowed an average of 37.14 points per matchup. They will take on the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors at 11:59 p.m. ET on Saturday at Clarence T.C. Ching Complex after a week off. Given that these two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
The Aggies might not have won anyway, but with 103 yards lost due to penalties, they really shot themselves in the foot two weeks ago. They suffered a grim 55-28 defeat to the Nevada Wolf Pack. New Mexico State was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 31-7. QB Jonah Johnson put forth a good effort for the losing side as he passed for three TDs and 425 yards on 62 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown.
Meanwhile, Hawaii ended up a good deal behind Nevada when they played last week, losing 34-17. Hawaii’s loss came about despite a quality game from RB Dae Dae Hunter, who rushed for two TDs and 174 yards on eight carries. Hunter put himself on the highlight reel with an 81-yard TD scramble in the second quarter.
New Mexico State is the clear underdog, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that determines this one. They hadn’t treated fans well this season, but they at least enjoy a 4-2 record against the spread.
The losses put New Mexico State at 1-6 and the Rainbow Warriors at 3-4. The Aggies are 1-4 after losses this season, Hawaii 2-1.
