Through 3 Quarters

The experts predicted a defeat for the West Virginia Mountaineers, but with just one quarter left to go, they seem like they might make the experts look bad. It’s still tight after three quarters, with West Virginia leading 23-17 over the TCU Horned Frogs.

RB Leddie Brown has led the way so far for the Mountaineers, as he has punched in two rushing touchdowns. K Casey Legg has contributed nine points on three field goals with a long of 49 yards.

TCU has enjoyed the tag-team combination of QB Max Duggan and WR Quentin Johnston. The former has passed for one TD and 160 yards on 16 attempts in addition to picking up 30 yards on the ground, while the latter has caught four passes for 84 yards.

This is the least points TCU has had yet this year going into the fourth quarter.

What to Know

The TCU Horned Frogs have been on the wrong side of a one-way rivalry with the West Virginia Mountaineers and are hoping to record their first win since Oct. 7 of 2017. TCU and West Virginia will face off in a Big 12 battle at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Neither team wants a repeat from their last game since each was dealt a considerable loss.

The Horned Frogs might not have won anyway, but with 86 yards lost due to penalties, they really shot themselves in the foot last week. They suffered a grim 52-31 defeat to the Oklahoma Sooners. TCU was surely aware of their 12.5-point disadvantage in the point spread, but the foreknowledge did nothing to prevent the result. A silver lining for them was the play of QB Max Duggan, who passed for four TDs and 346 yards on 30 attempts in addition to picking up 44 yards on the ground. That was the first 300+ yard effort for Duggan this season.

Meanwhile, things couldn’t have gone much worse for West Virginia as they lost 45-20 to the Baylor Bears two weeks ago. West Virginia was down 42-13 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. QB Jarret Doege had a pretty forgettable game, throwing one interception.

The Horned Frogs are the favorite in this one, with an expected 4.5-point margin of victory. True fans might be the only ones betting on them, currently 1-3-1 ATS, to cover the spread.

TCU is now 3-3 while the Mountaineers sit at 2-4. Two numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: TCU is 210th worst in the nation in rushing yards allowed per game, with 210 on average. West Virginia has experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the matchup with the 190th fewest rushing yards per game in the nation, having accrued only 109.5 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
