What you need to know about Louisiana

After blowing the doors off of Appalachian State two weeks ago, Louisiana nearly lost a close one last week against Arkansas State, 28-27. Redshirt senior quarterback Levi Lewis started the season hot, but has had a rough run of play over the past three weeks. he only completed 45 percent of his passes against South Alabama on October 2 for 49 yards, and last week against Arkansas State, he had just 122 yards and an interception.

Fortunately, the running game has been effective for the Ragin’ Cajuns, and Chris Smith carried the team, with 238 yards on 24 carries with two touchdowns. Freshman running back Montrell Johnson had a big day on the ground as well, rushing for 150 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns. That could spell trouble for the Bobcats, who have given up just over 192 rushing yards per game this season.

What you need to know about Texas State

Texas State scored first but couldn’t keep the lead against Georgia State last Saturday, losing 28-16. The Bobcats’ only offensive touchdown came on a rush from QB Brady McBride. McBride has put up decent passing totals throughout the season, but has had trouble protecting the football, and has tossed 10 interceptions this season. Louisiana hasn’t picked off opposing quarterbacks too often this season, but McBride has thrown seven in his last three games.

Although the Ragin’ Cajuns aren’t snatching too many passes out of the air from opponents, they are getting after the QB. Louisiana is tied for 37th in the nation in sacks, with 19. The Bobcats should be concerned about that, as they have allowed 21 sacks this season. Texas State’s rushing attack isn’t overly threatening, but it has some juice, led by redshirt freshman Calvin Hill, who has 384 yards on 79 attempts in 2021.
