The defending champion Milwaukee Bucks will visit the White House in Washington D.C. on Nov. 8 to celebrate the 2021 NBA title, according to ESPN. The Bucks defeated the Phoenix Suns in six games in the NBA Finals in July. The title represented Milwaukee’s first in 50 years. Logistically, the timing of the visit to the White House makes sense as the Bucks will already be in town for a game against the Wizards on Sunday, Nov. 7. They will then travel to Philadelphia to face off against the 76ers on Nov. 9.
Milwaukee’s visit will be especially noteworthy because they’ll be the first NBA team to visit the White House since the Cleveland Cavaliers did so in 2016, when Barack Obama was still the President of the United States. The NBA champion visiting the White House used to be an annual tradition, but the previous four champions — the Golden State Warriors (twice), Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Lakers — didn’t make the trip. LeBron James and the Lakers wanted to visit last season after winning their most recent championship but scheduling issues and COVID-19 protocols prevented that from happening.

After the Bucks bested the Suns in July, President Biden took to Twitter to congratulate the team on its first NBA title in 50 years.
Now, he will be able to deliver that message in person on Nov. 8.
