What you need to know about Stanford

There was early excitement for Stanford after they claimed the game’s first points last week, but it was the Washington State Cougars who ended up claiming the real prize. It was a hard-fought game, but Stanford had to settle for a 34-31 loss against Washington State last weekend. Stanford was up 13-0 at the end of the first quarter but couldn’t hold on to the lead. The Cardinal was boosted by QB Tanner McKee, who threw for 273 yards and for two touchdowns on 32 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown.

Stanford needs to win three of its final five games to qualify for a bowl game. McKee has settled in nicely as the Cardinal’s starter, but their rushing attack remains wildly inconsistent. Stanford is 3-4 against the spread in 2021.

What you need to know about Washington

Meanwhile, the Huskies didn’t have too much breathing room in their contest with the Arizona Wildcats on Friday, but they still did enough to walk away with a 21-16 victory. The win came about thanks to a strong surge after the half to overcome a 13-0 deficit. WR Terrell Bynum was the offensive standout of the matchup for Washington, catching five passes for one touchdown and 143 yards.

The Huskies are one of three teams in the FBS that have scored on every possession in the red zone. They have had some issues offensively, but are allowing only 19.7 points per game on defense. Washington is 1-6 against the spread in 2021.
