Top Week 9 college football expert predictions

One of Sallee’s top college football picks for Week 9: Florida State (+9.5) stays within the spread at Clemson in a 3:30 p.m. ET ACC Atlantic Division battle.

Clemson has won 31 straight games at Memorial Stadium, but the Tigers have now dropped out of the polls after losing three regular-season games for the first time since 2014. They have only scored more than 21 points once this season — that performance came against an FCS opponent. FSU got off to a slow start, but it has recovered by winning its last three games.

The Seminoles picked up wins over Syracuse and North Carolina before blowing out Massachusetts in a 59-3 final last week. Quarterback Jordan Travis has completed 38 of 55 pass attempts for 399 yards and five touchdowns during the three-game winning streak. He has also rushed for 312 yards in those contests, giving Florida State an edge over the lowest-scoring team in the ACC on Saturday afternoon.

Clemson is seemingly the heavy favorite because of its name value more so than by its recent performance on the field.

“The quarterback situation is a mess, they can’t block and they’re going up against a Seminoles squad that has given up just 354 yards per game in the month of October,” Sallee told SportsLine. “Clemson is 0-6 against the spread and that streak will continue this weekend.”
