Who’s Playing

Tampa Bay @ New Orleans

Current Records: Tampa Bay 5-1; New Orleans 4-2

What to Know

The New Orleans Saints will be returning home after a two-game road trip. New Orleans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face off in an NFC South battle at 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday at Caesars Superdome. The teams split their matchups last year, with the Saints winning the first 38-3 on the road and Tampa Bay taking the second 30-20.

New Orleans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-10 win over the Seattle Seahawks last Monday. New Orleans’ RB Alvin Kamara did his thing and caught ten passes for one TD and 128 yards. That receiving effort made it the first game that Kamara has posted more than 100 yards receiving.

New Orleans’ defense was a presence as well, as it got past Seattle’s offensive line to sack QB Geno Smith five times for a total loss of 38 yards. Leading the way was OLB Demario Davis and his two sacks. Davis now has three sacks this year.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers were completely in charge last week, breezing past the Chicago Bears 38-3 at home. The squad ran away with 35 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those in the second to pick up the victory. WR Mike Evans and QB Tom Brady were among the main playmakers for Tampa Bay as the former caught six passes for three TDs and 76 yards and the latter passed for four TDs and 211 yards on 36 attempts. Brady ended up with a passer rating of 141.50.

Tampa Bay’s defense was a force to be reckoned with, as it collected three interceptions and two fumbles. Those interceptions were spread across their defensive unit.

New Orleans is expected to lose this next one by 4.5. Those burned by picking them against the spread last Monday might want to keep in mind that the team has not yet dropped back-to-back games against the spread this season.

The wins brought New Orleans up to 4-2 and the Buccaneers to 5-1. Two numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: The Saints rank first in the league when it comes to touchdowns allowed, with only ten on the season. But Tampa Bay enters the game with 28 overall offensive touchdowns, which is the best in the NFL. We’ll see which of these strengths — offense or defense — will win out.
