LSU quarterback Myles Brennan entered the 2020 season as the starter under center for the Tigers, but now he is expected to be looking for a new home prior to next season. Brennan, who suffered an arm injury that’s prevented him from seeing the field in 2021, will enter the transfer portal, 247Sports confirmed on Monday

Coach Ed Orgeron had hoped that Brennan could be ready for this weekend’s matchup vs. No. 3 Alabama, but that doesn’t appear to be the case as his former starter will now test the waters elsewhere.

“He was throwing the other day. I don’t expect him back next week,” Orgeron said last week. “I have not talked to him. [Director of sports medicine] Beau [Lowery] hasn’t said anything about him practicing. I don’t think he’s ready to practice right now and I don’t expect him back next week.”

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound senior from Long Beach, Mississippi, threw for 1,112 yards and 11 touchdowns in three games last season before tearing abdominal muscles and ligaments in the 45-41 loss to Missouri. Despite suffering the injury during the game, Brennan threw for 430 yards and four touchdowns.

Brennan threw for 182 yards as a freshman in 2017 and redshirted in 2018. He served as Joe Burrow’s primary backup during the 2019 national title run, throwing for 353 yards and one score. He was a four-star prospect and the No. 152 overall player in the Class of 2016.

Brennan and Max Johnson were locked in a quarterback battle during spring practice in 2021, but Brennan’s injury prior to fall practice handed the job to Johnson, who’s taken the reins and never looked back. Johnson has thrown for 2,008 yards, 20 touchdowns and only five interceptions through eight games.

Brennan will have one year of eligibility remaining due to the free year of eligibility the NCAA granted players during the pandemic year of 2020.
