The 2021 NFL trade deadline has officially passed and Los Angeles Rams wide receiver DeSean Jackson was not dealt. It was reported last week that Jackson and the Rams had mutually agreed to seek a trade partner, but a deal never materialized. Because of this, the Rams announced Tuesday afternoon that they were officially waiving Jackson.

Jackson posted a message on Instagram hinting at his eventual release, and he thanked the Rams and their fans for their support:

“I am very grateful for the time that I spent playing for the LA Rams. Although this isn’t the outcome that we wanted, I am extremely appreciative for the opportunity & support given to to me by the Rams Coaches & all of the Fans. I understand that everything happens for a reason & I look forward to beginning the next chapter of my NFL career. Thank you.”

The 34-year-old signed a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Rams this offseason, but Jackson has caught just eight passes for 221 yards and one touchdown in seven games this year. He was inactive in the Rams’ 38-22 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Jackson not finding a trade partner before the deadline is not shocking, but it also doesn’t mean that there aren’t interested teams. NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo said he wouldn’t be shocked if Jackson finds a new NFL home in short order. The veteran is still a viable deep-threat weapon who could help a contender should they have interest. CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo identified four potential landing spots for Jackson.
