Paris Saint-Germain travel to Germany to face RB Leipzig in UEFA Champions League Group A on Paramount+ without Lionel Messi but with Kylian Mbappe after the Argentine picked up a hamstring and knee issue during the Ligue 1 win over Lille OSC last week which the Frenchman missed.

This one is do or die for Jesse Marsch and the home side with a place in the UEFA Europa League at stake after a dreadful start to their continental campaign with three straight losses despite a spirited showing in Paris last time out.

Team news

RBL: Dani Olmo is back. Lukas Klostermann and Marcel Halstenberg are both doubts. Brian Brobbey and Marcelo Saracchi are out.

PSG: Lionel Messi, Marco Verratti, Leandro Paredes, and Sergio Ramos are all out.

Storylines

Leipzig: There is no real alternative but to win for Marsch and his side. The Germans are dead last and face a fight to even reach the UEL let alone progress to the UCL knockout phase. A valiant showing in Paris went unrewarded and things are still not working out domestically with the team mired near midtable. Marsch must get this right.

PSG: Mauricio Pochettino’s team came from behind to beat Lille and remain top of Ligue 1 by a sizeable margin. They also top UCL Group A but there are still questions over the style of play and cohesion of this star-studded squad. A win here could go a long way to ensuring that PSG reach the knockout rounds before they even face Manchester City for the second time.

Prediction

A score draw which ultimately will not be good enough for Leipzig. The Germans will put in another determined display and do better than they did in Paris to claim a point but at this point they need all three. For PSG, it will be enough to remain unbeaten but might see them lose top spot. Pick: RBL 1-1 PSG.
