Who’s Playing

Ohio @ Eastern Michigan

Current Records: Ohio 2-7; Eastern Michigan 6-3

What to Know

After two games on the road, the Eastern Michigan Eagles are heading back home. The Eagles and the Ohio Bobcats will face off in a Mid-American battle at 8 p.m. ET Tuesday at Rynearson Stadium. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Tuesday, EMU’s offense rose to the challenge against a Toledo defense that boasted an average of only 18.25 points allowed. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Toledo Rockets, sneaking past 52-49. EMU can attribute much of their success to WR Hassan Beydoun, who caught 12 passes for two TDs and 197 yards. Ben Bryant’s 64-yard touchdown toss to Beydoun in the third quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the night.

The Eagles’ defense was a presence as well, as it embarrassed Toledo’s offensive line to sack QB Dequan Finn six times for a total loss of 32 yards. Leading the way was DL Jose Ramirez and his three sacks. Ramirez now has seven sacks through nine games.

Speaking of close games: on Tuesday Ohio sidestepped the Miami (OH) RedHawks for a 35-33 win. RB De’Montre Tuggle and QB Kurtis Rourke were among the main playmakers for Ohio as the former punched in two rushing touchdowns in addition to snatching one receiving TD and the latter passed for three TDs and 288 yards on 32 attempts in addition to picking up 45 yards on the ground.

The Eagles are the favorite in this one, with an expected 6-point margin of victory. They are currently two-for-two against the spread in their most recent games, a trend bettors might want to take into account.

The wins brought EMU up to 6-3 and the Bobcats to 2-7. A pair of defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: EMU is 230th worst in the nation in rushing touchdowns allowed, with 20 on the season. Ohios have had an even harder time: they are stumbling into the game with the 223rd most rushing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 19 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
