The Tennessee Titans are parting ways with a free-agent addition that did not work out. On Tuesday, NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reported that wide receiver Josh Reynolds requested his release from the Titans, and it was granted. According to Garafolo, if Reynolds is claimed via waivers, his new team would owe him just $500,000 for the rest of the season.
Reynolds was seen as an intriguing option in free agency this past offseason, and the former Los Angeles Rams wideout chose to sign with the Titans with Tennessee’s former No. 2 option Corey Davis now gone. It appeared to be the starting opportunity Reynolds had been waiting for, but his outlook quickly changed with the addition of Julio Jones.
“A lot of big threats there on the outside so, just trying to get in where I fit in,” Reynolds said back in July. “There’s going to be some one-on-ones that I’m going to see a lot, and I’m definitely excited for it.”
The 26-year-old was active for just five games for the Titans this season, and he caught a total of 10 passes for 90 yards. Apart from Jones, Reynolds was seemingly passed over by Chester Rogers and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine as well.
Reynolds had several teams interested in his services this offseason, including the Kansas City Chiefs. Keep an eye on them if Reynolds falls that low on the waiver wire. In 2020 with the Rams, Reynolds caught a career-high 52 passes for 618 yards and two touchdowns while boasting a 64.2 percent catch rate.
