Carson Wentz won’t let the birth of his second child affect his playing status for the Indianapolis Colts this week. Wentz is excited for the impending birth of his daughter as his wife, Madison, is expected to have her any day now.

If the baby happens to be born during the Colts’ game against the Jaguars, Wentz will miss it.

“I could get a call at any point here. We’re excited. We’re excited as a family. If it comes down to a game, I told my wife I’m playing and then I’ll see you at the hospital afterwards,” Wentz said. Wednesday. “She knew that. She’s been great. Coach has been understanding with meetings and everything. We’ll see what happens. I’m confident God will time it up the way it’s supposed to work out. We’re pretty excited as a family.”

Wentz has been playing well for the Colts this season, his first with the team. He’s completed 63.3% of his passes for 2,198 yards with 17 touchdowns to three interceptions for a 100.1 rating. Over the past six games, Wentz has completed 64.9% of his passes and thrown for 14 touchdowns to just two interceptions, averaging 7.8 yards per attempt.

Of course, Wentz playing for Indianapolis helps another franchise — the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia traded Wentz to Indianapolis for a conditional second-round pick, which turns into a first-round pick if Wentz plays 75% of the snaps if the Colts miss the playoffs or 70% of the snaps if the Colts make the playoffs. Wentz has missed just five snaps for Indianapolis this season, playing 99.2% of the teams’ snaps.

The Colts currently have the No. 14 pick in the draft, which belongs to Philadelphia if Wentz plays approximately five more games. Wentz is on his way there, determined to play a full seaosn after injuries and a benching ended his season in each of the past four years.

“My wife would probably be telling me to go play,” Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star. “It just shows the type of mentality that Carson has, it’s all about the team. He’s going to do whatever it takes to be out there Sunday.”
