Who’s Playing
Kansas @ Texas
Current Records: Kansas 1-8; Texas 4-5
What to Know
The Kansas Jayhawks haven’t won a matchup against the Texas Longhorns since Nov. 19 of 2016, but they’ll be looking to end the drought on Saturday. The Jayhawks and Texas will face off in a Big 12 battle at 7:30 p.m. ET at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium/Jamail Field. If the game is anything like Texas’ 50-48 win from their previous meeting in October of 2019, the scorekeeper will be kept real busy.
Kansas found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 35-10 punch to the gut against the Kansas State Wildcats last week. No one had a standout game offensively for Kansas, but WR Kwamie Lassiter II led the way with one touchdown.
Meanwhile, Texas suffered a grim 30-7 defeat to the Iowa State Cyclones last week. One thing holding the Longhorns back was the mediocre play of QB Hudson Card, who did not have his best game: he passed for only 98 yards on 23 attempts.
The Jayhawks are the clear underdogs, so they’re hoping it’s the size of the fight that determines this one. Those betting on them against the spread shouldn’t have high expectations for them since the squad is 1-6 ATS when expected to lose.
Kansas is now 1-8 while Texas sits at 4-5. A couple defensive numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: Kansas is 249th worst in the nation in rushing touchdowns allowed, with 34 on the season. Texas have had an even harder time: they are stumbling into the contest with the 223rd most rushing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 19 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
