Who’s Playing

Arizona @ Washington State

Current Records: Arizona 1-9; Washington State 5-5

What to Know

The Washington State Cougars are 3-1 against the Arizona Wildcats since October of 2015, and they’ll have a chance to extend that success Friday. Washington State and Arizona will face off in a Pac-12 battle at 9 p.m. ET at Clarence D. Martin Stadium. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they’ll have plenty of motivation to get the ‘W.’

It was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, but the Cougars were not quite the Oregon Ducks’ equal in the second half when they met last week. Washington State fell to Oregon 38-24. Washington State’s defeat came about despite a quality game from WR Travell Harris, who caught eight passes for one TD and 109 yards.

Meanwhile, Arizona came up short against the Utah Utes last week, falling 38-29. A silver lining for the Wildcats was the play of QB Will Plummer, who passed for one TD and 223 yards on 33 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 50 yards. Plummer had some trouble finding his footing against the California Golden Bears two weeks ago, so this was a step in the right direction.

The Cougars are the favorite in this one, with an expected 15-point margin of victory. Those burned by picking them against the spread last week might want to keep in mind that the team has not yet dropped back-to-back games against the spread this season.

The losses put Washington State at 5-5 and Arizona at 1-9. A couple stats to keep an eye on: Washington State is 240th worst in the nation in thrown interceptions, having thrown 13 on the season. The Wildcats have experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the matchup with the 249th most thrown interceptions in the nation, having thrown 16 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
