They took their contest against the Duke Blue Devils by a conclusive 48-17 score. The win came about even with Virginia Tech handicapping themselves with 85 penalty yards. Their RB Raheem Blackshear was on fire, rushing for one TD and 117 yards on 12 carries in addition to snatching one receiving TD. That nimble footwork stands out as the first time Blackshear has hit the 100-yard rushing mark this season.
Virginia Tech’s defense was a presence as well, as it got past Duke’s offensive line to sack the quarterback four times for a total loss of 31 yards. It was a group effort with five guys contributing.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought game, but the Hurricanes had to settle for a 31-28 loss against the Florida State Seminoles last week. QB Tyler Van Dyke put forth a good effort for the losing side as he passed for four TDs and 316 yards on 47 attempts.
The Hokies are expected to lose this next one by 7. Those who got lucky with them against the spread last week might want to hold off on placing bets this time since the squad has yet to string together back-to-back wins against the spread.
