The Green Bay Packers lost control of the No. 1 seed in the NFC with their 34-31 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, but they have something much more serious to worry about: Aaron Rodgers‘ toe.

The reigning NFL MVP did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday last week due to the injury, but did return as a limited participant on Friday. While he had no injury designation for Sunday, Rodgers told reporters after the game that he’s in pain and the issue is “a little worse than turf toe.” Green Bay has another important matchup next week against the Los Angeles Rams, but Rodgers is already eyeing the Week 13 bye — hoping to get healthy.

“I’m just going to have to get to the bye and hope I can get some healing over the bye week,” Rodgers said, via ESPN. “Probably the same schedule next week. Was in a lot of pain. Went in at halftime early to get it checked out. It’s very, very painful. Got stepped on the first half, and that kind of activated all the symptoms I was having. It’s going to be another painful week and next week, and then hopefully start to feel a little better on the bye.”

Even with the toe injury, Rodgers completed 23 of 33 passes for a season-high 385 yards and four touchdowns on Sunday. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported this weekend that this injury is a concerning one, and something that Rodgers will likely have to deal with for the rest of the season. The Packers have made the NFC Championship Game two years in a row now, and appear to be a legitimate contender yet again. Their ceiling will be limited in a big way, however, if Rodgers is going to be affected for the rest of the year with this issue.
