Who’s Playing

Tulsa @ SMU

Current Records: Tulsa 5-6; SMU 8-3

What to Know

The SMU Mustangs and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane will face off in an American Athletic clash at 4 p.m. ET Nov. 27 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium. Tulsa will be strutting in after a victory while the Mustangs will be stumbling in from a defeat.

The oddsmakers predicted a rough contest for SMU last week, and boy were they were right. They have to be aching after a bruising 48-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bearcats. SMU was in a tough position by the half, with the score already sitting at 27 to nothing. QB Tanner Mordecai had a pretty forgettable game, passing for only 66 yards on 26 attempts.

Meanwhile, Tulsa ran circles around the Temple Owls last week, and the extra yardage (508 yards vs. 293 yards) paid off. Tulsa made easy work of Temple and carried off a 44-10 win. With the Golden Hurricane ahead 27 to nothing at the half, the matchup was all but over already. Tulsa QB Davis Brin was slinging it as he passed for two TDs and 297 yards on 31 attempts in addition to punching in one rushing touchdown. Brin’s performance made up for a slower game against the Tulane Green Wave two weeks ago.

Special teams collected 14 points for Tulsa. K Zack Long delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.

SMU is the favorite in this one, with an expected 6.5-point margin of victory. They have been good against the spread at home while Tulsa has been good against the spread on the road, so something will have to give.

SMU is now 8-3 while the Golden Hurricane sit at 5-6. A couple numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: The Mustangs are stumbling into the matchup with the 193rd most thrown interceptions in the nation, having thrown ten on the season. Tulsa has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 239th worst in the nation in thrown interceptions, having thrown 14 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
