Through 3 Quarters

Down four at the end of last quarter, the North Carolina Tar Heels have now snagged the lead. After three quarters neither squad has the contest in the bag, but UNC leads 24-21 over the NC State Wolfpack. So far, this is quite different from their previous head-to-head, which was decided by 27 points.

With four sacks, the North Carolina defense has been a true menace for NC State’s offensive line. We’ll see if the Tar Heels can continue to haunt the offensive line.

What to Know

Get ready for an ACC battle as the NC State Wolfpack and the North Carolina Tar Heels will face off at 7 p.m. ET Friday at Carter-Finley Stadium. NC State is out to keep their six-game home win streak alive.

The Wolfpack made easy work of the Syracuse Orange last week and carried off a 41-17 win. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-7. It was another big night for NC State’s QB Devin Leary, who passed for two TDs and 303 yards on 24 attempts.

Meanwhile, UNC turned the game against the Wofford Terriers into a track meet and took the gold after outgaining them 519 yards to 302. UNC enjoyed a cozy 34-14 victory over Wofford last week. RB British Brooks was the offensive standout of the matchup for the Tar Heels, punching in two rushing touchdowns.

The Wolfpack are the favorite in this one, with an expected 6.5-point margin of victory. There could be an interesting gambling play in this one, as they have done quite well against the spread at home this season while UNC have struggled against the spread on the road.

The wins brought NC State up to 8-3 and UNC to 6-5. A pair of defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: NC State is stumbling into the contest with the 185th most passing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 18 on the season. UNC has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 213th worst in the nation in touchdowns allowed, with 42 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
