Drew Lock has entered the Denver Broncos‘ Week 12 game against the Los Angeles Chargers following an injury to starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater is questionable to return after suffering a lower leg injury during the first minute of the second quarter. Bridgewater sustained the injury after getting sacked by Chargers safety Derwin James.
Bridgewater gave the Broncos the lead on an 11-yard run with 4:31 left in the game’s opening quarter. Eight plays after Bridgewater’s injury, Denver extended its lead on rookie running back Javonte Williams‘ nine-yard touchdown run. Lock completed one pass for seven yards on the Broncos’ scoring drive.
Denver’s starting quarterback for parts of the last two seasons, Lock had previously played in just one game this season, Denver’s 23-7 loss to the Ravens back in Week 4. Lock lost his position battle to Bridgewater entering Week 1 despite having a solid training camp and preseason.
A 2019 second-round pick, Lock won four of his first five starts during his rookie season. His second season failed to live up to expectations, however, as the Broncos went just 4-9 with Lock as their starting quarterback. Lock’s lack of progress led to the Broncos acquiring Bridgewater, a former Pro Bowler who put up solid numbers during his lone season as the Carolina Panthers‘ starting quarterback.
