The American Eagles’ road trip will continue as they head to UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse at 2 p.m. ET Sunday to face off against the Duquesne Dukes. Duquesne should still be feeling good after a win, while the Eagles will be looking to get back in the win column.
It looks like American got the smaller half of the wishbone at Thanksgiving dinner. They were completely outmatched by the Maryland-Baltimore County Retrievers on the road and fell 98-67.
As for the Dukes, they have more to be thankful for after their contest against the Bradley Braves last Monday. Duquesne netted a 78-70 victory. Guard Leon Ayers III was the offensive standout of the matchup for Duquesne, picking up 23 points in addition to seven boards.
American have to know they’ll be fighting an uphill battle given the 10.50 point spread they are up against. Those sticking with them against the spread have guts, to put it politely, as the team has let down bettors in their past four games.
The Eagles and the Dukes now sit at an identical 2-4. Two numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: American has allowed their opponents to shoot 50% from the floor on average, which is the highest shooting percentage allowed in college basketball. Duquesne has experienced some struggles of their own as they have only been able to knock down 39% percent of their shots, which is the 17th lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
