The Boston Bruins announced Tuesday that head coach Bruce Cassidy has been placed in the NHL‘s COVID-19 protocol. No further details were provided in the announcement. Cassidy, who is reportedly vaccinated, is the first Bruins player or coach to be placed on the league’s COVID list so far this season.
The 56-year-old will miss some time with the team, but there is no telling just exactly how much time the team will be without their head coach on the bench. He will miss at least Tuesday night’s home game against the Red Wings. In his absence, the team will have to lean on assistant coaches Joe Sacco, Kevin Dean and Chris Kelly.
The Bruins will soon head to Nashville to play the Predators on Thursday and then host the Lightning on Saturday.
The team is currently without forward Brad Marchand for three games after the league suspended him for slew-footing Canucks defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson during Sunday’s game.
Boston is currently 11-7-0 in Cassidy’s fifth full season as their head coach. He is 205-89-41 as the head coach of the team and has a 33-33 record in the postseason.
