After a dominant regular season that saw it take a firm hold on the top spot in the rankings, Georgia is down to No. 3 in the new Coaches Poll following its 41-24 loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. The Crimson Tide, conversely, took the No. 1 spot in the poll. Aside from Alabama, Baylor was among the biggest risers in this week’s Coaches Poll, as the Bears wound up at No. 6 following their win in the Big 12 Championship Game.
Despite a two-week run of dominant football including a victory over arch rival Ohio State and a blowout victory against Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game, No. 2 Michigan received just five first-place votes in the Coaches Poll. By comparison, Alabama received 54 first-place votes.
Six of the 10 spots in the Coaches Poll are taken up by two conferences, as the SEC (Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss) and Big Ten (Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State) each put three teams in the top 10.
