Aaron Rodgers received a second opinion on his fractured toe during the Green Bay Packers‘ recent bye weekend. Rodgers’ second option confirmed his decision to not have in-season surgery on his toe. Green Bay hoped the team’s Week 13 bye would give Rodgers’ toe more time to heal before the team’s stretch run.
“There was no mindset change,” Rodgers said Tuesday on the “Pat McAfee Show”, via ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. “The biggest key is rest. I wish there was another one of these (bye) weeks so I could get 14-21 great days without doing anything, but the toe is improving.”
Rodgers revealed late last month that he suffered the injury while working out at home during his recent quarantine. Despite the injury, Rodgers has continued to play at an MVP level. After missing one game while being on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list, Rodgers has thrown six touchdowns against just one interception while leading the Packers to wins over the Seahawks and Rams. And while the Packers came up short against the Vikings in Week 11, Rodgers delivered with a season-high 385 passing yards and four touchdown passes.
In Green Bay’s most recent win, a 36-28 victory over the Rams back in Week 12, Rodgers threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for his third touchdown of the season while helping the Packers improve to 9-3 through 12 games.
After the game, the reigning league MVP alluded to the Packers’ most recent Super Bowl championship team when discussing Green Bay’s current team. Like the 2010 team, Green Bay’s roster is full of talented yet unheralded players such as cornerback Rasul Douglas. A member of the Cardinals‘ practice squad before the Packers signed him early last month, Douglas’ pick-six of Matthew Stafford late in the third quarter stretched the Packers’ lead to 36-17 during their win over Los Angeles.
“I said it a while back about 2010, there were a lot of guys on that team I feel like that weren’t wanted by certain people, certain teams,” Rodgers said, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. “They thought they were done or just couldn’t find a place for them. I’m really proud of those contributions.”
